S2022

SPRING 2022

I failed to mention if you only want to ride one or two days and can arrange your own transportation that is fine also. So if you want to ride to RBS with us on Tuesday, hang out awhile on the porch, have dinner then head home. We would love to have ya.

I want to throw this out there and if anyone is interested and want more details reach out to me and I will try to answer any questions. Last year five of us did a three-day ride from “the farm” in White House to Montgomery Bell State Park, we had a blast!. This year we are riding to….RED BOILING SPRINGS! Yes, we are going back to a FOGBEE Fall tradition, but in late spring for the first time. June 7th,8th and 9th.

Although Dennis and Debra are no longer there and sold the Armour’s Hotel to Mark Efros and his wife, it has not changed a great deal. The large front porch, the spa, the massage, the great food, 5 start rooms and large bath and showers still exist. (well maybe 3 ½ star rooms and clean baths and showers).

Red Boiling Springs is located just the right distance from Hendersonville, routes will go northeast through beautiful scenery and farm land, with a few rollers between Hartsville and RBS. The roads are generally smooth with low traffic.

We plan on leaving or meeting (Tuesday June 7th) together at a location to be determined riding to Hartsville for lunch or a quick snack then on to RBS. Social time Tuesday afternoon on the porch with snacks provided by the hotel, dinner that night. Riding locally from the hotel on Wednesday June 8th

Again, hanging out on the porch and resting Wednesday afternoon, dinner at the hotel Wednesday night then riding home on Thursday June 9th. Susan Curtis has graciously volunteered (Steve may have drafted her) to be our baggage and beverage sherpa (thank you Ms. Susan!).

The weekend trips to RBS usually fill up fast but this is a weekday ride/tour so interest may not be as great. There are rooms available and we will be going back in October 28th – 30th great weekend with the wives or significant other. But if you have never been try to make this work, if not in June especially in October!!

We currently have 5 riders confirmed, if you are interested give me a shout at 615-572-5045 or jerialwoodall@gmail.com

Inaugural Spring Ride 2022

We have always done RBS in the Fall, so a few of us decided to try a spring ride. It did not disappoint! The RBS Inaugural Spring Ride took place on Tuesday June 7th - Thursday June 9th. Myself, Mike Knake, Steve Curtis, Doc Brew and Tony Thomas endured the humidity and over 170 miles and 6700'+ of climbing in the three days. Below is a short recap and we look forward to the fall ride! (BTW forecast was for rain every day....Not a drop!)

DAY 1

First day of our Red Boiling Springs Ride. Very humid! 60 + miles with 3400’ of climbing. (I struggled with the humidity).

DAY 2

RBS old farts ride day 2; ride to Gainesboro TN and Jackson Co. 52 miles 2700’ climbing. A bit cooler today with clouds.

DAY 3

So day 3 ended beautifully! 62 miles with 2,600’ of climb. The total three days was 167 miles 6,900’ of climb. (I hope Amazon sells “sit bone” replacements). After a brief conversation with my riding partners I changed the name of the ride to “Three old farts and two young bucks ride”. An amazing three days with my FOGBEE pals; Mike Knake, Steve Curtis, “Doc Brew” Boone the moonshine master, and our newest buck Tony Thomas. Special thanks to Susan Curtis for being our sherpa and hauling bags and coolers up and back, The First Baptist Church of Gallatin for allowing us to park a few cars at the church, and my brother from another mother Jr Black (Jr Black’s Plumbing and Electric for all you plumbing, electric and gas needs😬) for watching over our vehicles at the church. Bless you all thank you for allowing me to share these life experiences.

The new owners of the Armours are great host and we hope you can join us for the fall ride; Oct 28th, 29th, 30th.

Take care!

Woody!
